Is there an easy way to swap it out? Mine's been fried since I obtained my Ex and I'd like to fix it. I'm tired of guessing how much fuel I have based on how much I've driven.

Only 2 methods.. Drop the tank or cut an access hole in the floor of the X..

When you change the sending unit you might as well change the fuel pump as you don't really want to be doing this more than once.. and many places only sell them as a unit anyway...

If you do use the access panel method, it won't be as bad to change the sending unit/fuel pump again but re-sealing the panel and getting it cut right are sometimes an issue.

I'm just going to do the sending unit- I don't mind dropping the tank, was just wondering if there were any quick tricks to doing it.

when i dropped my tank i used some rail road ties ( 9x12 or 8x10,what ever is the standard size is ) i took the spare out so i had access to the wire harness ( left frame rail almost inline with the back edge of the wheel well ) and also to get to the filler tubes .jacked the truck up with my floor jack as far as it would go ...set the rear wheels on the rail road ties ( much sturdy than jack stands and they are wider giveing the wheel a bigger foot print to rest on rather than putting jack stands on the axle tubes ) ...removed the floor jack rolled it under the tank with a 2x4 ( 2 foot long ) and placed it under the tank skid plate and jacked it up to hold it then went to undo the skid plate bolts then lowered the plate down and out of the way .re-postioned the jack back under the tank this time then undid the straps then lowered the tank just a bit ( oh by the way make sure the tank is near empty ;) ) then went to take off the fuel lines and breather hose connetions then lowered the tank down on the ground ( also i used a big piece of carpet that i used to lay on but also to protect the tank if it falls to the ground ( i got a asphalt drive way so there are little sharp stones that could pierce the tank if it fell just right on one ) .

i had to do it twice because the first pump i bought failed so all in all it took me about 2 hours from start to finish maybe a little less time than that but pretty close .

I've changed a couple and a tranny jack or motorcycle jack works great to lower the tank. once the skid plate is off it's easy.
