Hi all!
New to the forum but have had my 97 XLT for 5 years. Long story short, I think the previous owner killed the quick coupler on the fuel line. (There's a couple other things they messed up too that are not worth mentioning  ). I hopped on this site to figure out how to do a couple things and all of the info has been great  with no need to interupt all of the knowledge flow. Get to replacing the fuel filter and something ain't quite right. I can't get the coupler off of the "In" side and the little metal teeth seem to be bent outward  . My back yard mechanic friend says the fuel line is screwed up and probably needs to be replaced.

Can this be done by the semi mechanically inclined amature (someone that does wires, plugs, batteries, alternators etc.)? If so, where do I begin? If not what kind of monetary damage am I looking at from a mechanic?

I figured to start at a junk yard. Fuel lines seem like a part where it doesn't matter the age or source. What years and models fuel lines match? I would only need the half that goes from the tank to the filter. Appreciate any help and I apologize if I'm too long winded or inappriate in any way :o .
