Driving to go wheel a get about 100 miles from home and the truck starts spittin and sputtering... black smoke out the tail pipe--- mostly when I let off the gas... I think "A HA" Fuel presure regulator (been down that road before) Pull the codes and get a 111 and a 181 (Lean fuel in bank one.) So we get on the trusty phone/net we locate one, and get it installed. Clear the codes and reset the ecm. Drive all day wheelling no problems drive 30 miles at highway speeds to a resturaunt no problem.. head home--108 miles down the road same thing spit spit sputter-- I limp the last 20 miles home and in town it is really bad-- barely runs at all. Now I just replaced the Fuel pressure regulator in Feb-- now this one went bad after 130 miles?

Any one have a clue whats going on? Could possibly be another bad regulator but the odds are looking like it is something else? Last August I had the return line come off of the tank-- Related????

It's possible the regulator didn't cause it, but that resetting the ECM only gave the illusion that it was fixed.

Check your battery ground cable. My truck did this same thing because the cable was corroded badly and injectors were firing constantly.

Thanks Just re-did the cables and installed a new battery about 3 weeks ago---

Turned out to be an air intake temp sensor was bad---- Go figure! :-( I have put about 500 miles on it and no problems. :-)

what motor do u have and were is sensor

I have the 4.0 ohv - the sensor is located in the drivers side of the intake clear at the back. It takes a 1" wrench to get at it. :-)

I started coughing again so I am going to change the PCV valve HOPING that this will fix the blow by and quit getting oil on the sensor.
