fuel problem

I have a 2000 ford ranger. I'm not getting any fuel pressure. I did the obvious things like check the fuse, check the fuel pump. The pump is not getting electric to it or something, because i took the pump out and hooked it to a 12 volt battery and it ran fine. When i put it back on the sending unit it won,t do anything. Help anyone

If the fuse is fine than look for a relay... pump should be on a relay right? check the books and see if you can locate it.
