I am having a problem with my baby again and you guys always seem to help so I am counting on you again. We are having a problem with a fuel pump fuse under the hood blowing. As you already know these are 2.50 a piece so another reason it needs fixed. The fuel pump still works b/c we hooked it up straight and it worked fine. If we put a jumper on the fuse its start smoking. the only thing we can think of is its the fuel pump relay but I don't know where its at. and what it does. we thought maybe inertia switch with which I had problems before. But we also jumped that and it worked fine. I was a F-16 avionics tech so I have a broad knowledge of electrics but not of this. CAn we bypass the inertia switch without hurting anything? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks brent

Try doing a search on fuel pump relays, there is a common problem with 1st gen explorers where the relay sticks open and kills the battery.

I haven't heard of it causing your condition but it could be related.

In any event you may want to just replace it anyhow cause its only $12 and could save you chasing your tail for multiple problems

good luck

On mine, a 94EB, relay is in the black box with the fuses, not sure which one it is of the top, but there is a diagram on the cover.

In my X, a 92' XLT 4x4, the fuel pump relay is located under the main fuse box, wich you can find in the right side of the engine compartment, near the battery.

Good luck

It ended up being the fuel pump. We figured $50 BUCKS MINE AS WELL REPLACE IT. so its fixed thanks though!!

It happened again, which sucked. so we got it home whenever we had a jumper in this one wire underneath the truck started smoking. we snipped it which isnt always the best idea but everything works great. Anybody have any idea what that wire could be??? either way truck runs lights, stereo, heat, ac, FUEL PUMP!! All work!!!!!
