I'm troubleshooting my 1997 Explorer 5.0, and thought the fuel pump switch might have gotten turned off somehow. I can't find my manual, so I don't know where it is. If you guys know it would be very helpful.

I would first check the relay and fuse, of course this is after you have already listened for the pump to come on after you turen the kley to on it will come on for a few seconds.

Inertia switch, or fuel pump cutoff switch failures are rare, tripping them takes a hard hit or roll over so I would check elsewhere first.

I am not sure about the 97 5.0L (which is odd because I own a 96 5.0, for 30 days now) but on most earlier models the switch is mounted under the carpet, just below the glove box, near the center console.

...

my fuel pump shutoff is under the carpet onthe passenger side, my cousin was sleeping in my car once and somehow kicked it loose, the clip kinda broke i guess. i don't know about your model year, if it's in the same place or not

HAHA, silly Ford. I remember one time my buddy and I were driving down the road telling jokes when he laughed so hard he kicked the floor board and hit the fuel shut off switch! I didn't realize it at first and couldn't figure out why my car all of a sudden shut off with a full tank of gas. It's seriously RIGHT under glove box and it took me forever to figure out that my friend really didn't "kick" my car off. Pretty sure this won't help you but it gave me a chuckle.
