Of course you can. I wouldn't though, it will eat your tires, lockers are a lot more tire friendly.

What does running a full spool mean? Like permanently locked?

I doubt you would make it six months with a spool on the street without breaking an axle or pinion. It causes a huge bind in any tight turns. Most don't use them in trail rigs since it makes manuvering tight corners much more difficult. They are however great for loose surfaces like sand, mud, and desert terrain. Im not saying ive never seen one run on the street but i would never do it personally.

I use one on the street. No way i would ever break an axle, but it does wear down tires faster. On concrete the tires will also screech like hell, if a cop wanted to be a ##### he could probably give you a ticket saying you were burning out.

Exactly. It does the same thing as welding the spider gears. It replaces the carrier in the differential with a solid piece that locks both axles together full time.

JTX you have a 9" which is certainlly one of the stronger rears. The only reason i brought up breaking an axle is that I just finished putting a 8.8 and a 302 in with a spool in a jeep wrangler with 4.56's and 35's. It did it twice in a month once pulling out of the drive way and once leaving gravel to pavement.

By the way nice setup you have there like no door wheeling. No doors=bigger pucker factor when layed over.

You're not going to break it on the street, I've seen welded 7.5s in 302 B2s street driven and wheeled and didn't break.

I ran my Bronco spooled 9" on the street for several years as my only daily driver. Keep the tires rotated and learn to stay out of the skinny pedel when turning at low speed. Its weird at first, but you get used to it.

Thanks Damon..

Im sure like Damon said if you lay into the gas while turning, somethings gotta give.
