I have a 96 Explorer 4x4 . I want to find out if it is possible in 4-Hi to have the 4WD system fully lock instead of the computer controlled lock up. This is my first electronic controlled system and I can't say I like it. Personally I prefer a set of manual lock warns and a big solid transfer case shift handle poking out of my floor board. I have the 4.0 with an automatic trans and I have no idea what transfer case or differentials are on the underside.

I don't believe it is possible.

Welcome to the Boards!! And most here will agree with your opinions on the manny hubs and t-case!

the front is some wierd derivitive from a dana 35 the rear is a ford 8.8 with 31 splined axles....
the computer doesnt really control your 4x4 system.... it basically runs an electrically actuated t-case (a switch instead of a lever) into a viscous coupling that goes to the front diff then to hubs that are always locked in.... i think, not 100%

On 1996's you have auto 4 wheel drive, there is no 4wd high, and hubs that are always locked. To get locked 4wd you have to use low. And then only one front tire will spin at a time, You can get 4wd high if you swap your t-case to a manual shift. Then you get your lever in the floor:)
