Full-time 4x4 in '96?

Yes I agree with you there. I'm just saying that if he has it on jack stands, in the regular auto mode, wont they all spin, tcs thinking it is slipping? and with the mod done as well. once on the ground i agree that should work

Yes, you are correct.... I meant to say that in the last post, but then got off on a bit of a tangent, I guess. :)

One more thing now. I have looked at this few times, but if you left the custom switch in the off position in 4lo, you'd have 2lo, correct?

Yes, sir, you are correct. That's the advantage to using an on-off-on switch instead of an on-on switch. That also applies to BOTH the 95-96 as well as the 97-01 control trac systems.

I havenn't had a chance to put it on jack stands yet. I was wondering if the auto would spin because the back was slipping also. The auto will usually clunk when it engages so I hope I will be able to tell, but I am not sure. I got busy and didn't have time to do it. Gijoecam I used a three position switch On-Off-On. I didn't check the current draw when it was apart. Once I am sure thee 4 auto lock is working perfectly and what happens on each position of my switch I will let you guys know. Hopefully sometimes next week.

SUCCESS!!!

I did it today using an on-off-on switch. Took me about 1.5 hours and had no problems at all. Took the Ex out on to some snow-covered roads. Turned the switch to 4x4 auto then flipped my switch up to lock 4x4 high. It worked great. In 4x4 auto, the front wheels will not bind up to try to keep up with the rear on tight turns. With my switch locked, they would. (and I did this on a low traction surface, not dry pavement.) This is an awesome way for us 95-96 guys to get 4x4 high. Thanks Joe for all your help!

It works, I checked mine today. I also checked the 4 low and with this modification I have a possible 2low. When my switch is in the off position and in 4low only the back turned. I can't wait to go wheeling!

Wow. I guess this is one mod everyone just "forgot" about.... I mean...I, and others, had this back in 2001. Most of the people that I know of that had theirs modded no longer have those vehicles, so I can see how it could be forgotten.

:):):)I am happy the 95-96 brown wire mod has been re-discovered:) :):):)

your method of using the DPDT switch is probably better, but....

This mod can also be done with a on/off switch and a large diode. You cut the wires where the brown wire splits and heads to the drivers side. Install the diode, minding anode/cathode here. And just apply power to the left side of the diode from 12v source. Your method using the different switch is the same thing ours was, yours just uses a mechanical disconnect to keep from back feeding the 12v and mine uses the solid state switch(diode). Your way is probably the better method, having a mechanical disconnect.
