Hi Guys,

About 6 years ago i took out my engine and replaced all the chains, guides, sprockets etc etc from my 1999 4 litre sohc explorer. Before i embarked on that adventure i did loads of research on this forum and gathered all the information which gave me incentive to do this somewhat brave task.

Now, that explorer is going into retirement and i have purchased another explorer in far better condition and half the milage as i love them so much. Unfortunately this has developed the usual chain rattle and i want to replace all the timing stuff in it. I have all the tools needed for the job so why not eh :)

My query is that i can recall finding a thread on this forum (or a link to another site) from someone that decided to do this project and did a step by step guide, along with pictures of the entire process of taking engine out, doing all the timing stuff needed and engine back in. It was dummy proof from what i can remember. I just wish i had kept the print out now!! I have spent hours searching this forum (and on google) for this write up but cant find it. Starting to think i dreamt it!!! Does anyone know of this thread i'm talking about??? I did my project in October 2007, so the thread would be before then.

Cheers, Ken

Thanks for the reply. Its not that one no. It was before October 2007, that was when i done my timing component replacement. It was a complete write up of this guys project that gave a complete (dummy proof) guide showing from start to finish how to remove the engine, strip the timing components out, install the new ones including retiming the cams using the proper timing kit, putting the engine back together and installing it back in the car. Not 100% but I do have the feeling it was on another website but i found the link to it from here. It was so easy to follow with lots of hints and tips about what parts could be reused or had to be renewed. I have lots of other threads showing this process but none of them are as easy to follow as the one i found years ago. I can still do the job with the helpful threads that i've found so far but if i could find the one i used last time it would be a breeze. Also if i found it again it would be helpful for others too.
