I've searched and see that the key/remote for the fusion is compatable with 06+ explorers. Has anyone programmed their 02-05 explorer with the newer key?

I bought a nice flip key from ebay - from artiway - for my '04, cut it and programmed it without any problems. Highly recommended.

it will work. the 3 button or 4 button edge, or fusion key.

i haven't tried a mustang key since we still don't have them in stock :(

I've programmed replacement remotes for the truck myself, but need to know if I can link the key or if I have to have the dealership program the chipped key to the truck (or if the key is even chipped at all).

You can program key yourself. Place 1st original in ignition, turn off and on I believe 3 times and within 5 seconds place 2nd original and do the same. Also within 5 seconds place new key in and turn on and off 3 times. Now you should be able to start vehicle with new key. Last note, with the two originals you don't actually start the vehicle, just from the off position to the on position. Instructions on this is on forum, do a search for program key or key.

What if you dont have a second original key and bought the flip key as a second key? Can it still be programmed?

it seems you only need one original key to program all additional keys.

you need 2.

less you have a remote start system installed, then maybe not even 1 programed key. hehe. the people installaling remote starts do weird stuff.
