so i wanna put a system in my truck that sounds good, and has enough for people to be impressed by, but i dont want my doors falling off from rattling, or my roof caving in. i was thinkin 2 12's? what speakers and amps do you guys suggest for not an a** load of money? also, can i do this with the stock hu?

i have a few other threads about my truck plans, so if you find them by accident, please give me any input. thanks guys!

You can build a decent system with a single 12'. The money you save from just getting a single 12' put towards new front speakers.

You can use the stock head unit, but it's well advised to get a after market head unit. How much were you willing on spending?

It will NOT be worth it with the stock HU in my opinion. Single twelve in a bandpass should rattle it just right. I would personally suggest Diamond Audio. Its an amazing brand and I know many audiophiles who are very pleased with their stuff. I kick myself daily for selling my Diamond 12.

i was hoping to spend less than a grand? is that possible? after thinking about it, 1 12, door speakers all around, and a BASIC hu would be all i need? do i need to do tweeters if i do all this?

You dont need to do tweeters, but they do make a system sound alot more clear and brighter.

Worry about front speakers the most. If you power them correctly, you wont need rear speakers. You can use the rear stock speakers powered by the HU for an even feel.

This sub..

In this box...

Powered by this amp....

With these speakers/tweets...

will sound pretty good and comes out to about 480 not including shipping.

That amp will drive the front 2 speakers and the 3/4 channel can be bridged for the sub.

As for a head unit, what features did you need? Ipod hookup?

awesome! i always kinda heard pioneer was overrated? not dissing, just asking what your opinion is. did you pick those components because they are cheap or because you have had good luck with them?

yeah, i just need a cd player, and iPod hookup. wanna be able to adjust the sub level and all that too. but that comes in with most aftermarket hu's right?

Ive always had good luck with Pioneer. I picked those components basically because they pack decent performance with a decent price.
The sub is really good, but could be swapped out for something else if you didnt like it. There are SO MANY choices for subs its not even funny, but that sub will hit hard while the amp stays cool and preforms greats.

Im a fan of simple looks, thats why I picked that HU. It also has iPod Direct Controls for your iPod. Not gonna lie and say its the best HU out there, but its decent enough for the system you are putting together and its marked at a great price. Im sure someone else here might be able to recoment a better HU.

sweet! thats exactly what i was going for, something basic, but strong and sounds good for a good price. i was looking towards KICKER, but idk much about them. ive always seen a lot of pioneer and x-plods. so thats fine with me. on those speakers, it says removable tweets, does that mean i can use the speakers without them?

and thats like everything on this forum, i look at everything and get overwhelmed because theres so much. its hard to pick anything out.

Just go to stores before and after christmas and thanksgiving and you should be able to find buy one speaker get one free. That is what i did to get my two 12" Kickers and the best cheap amp is an insignia. My is very deep and also very clean. as for a deck you can get a sony xplod deck with aux plug in, sat ready, and i-pod hook ups for 99-150 dollars.

The speakers have removable tweets. If they aren't hooked up, you will still get sound, but it will only have a midbass kind of sound with no highs. Baisclly, it'll sound crappy.

If you didn't want to have to custom mount the tweeters, these speakers sound damn good when hooked up to a amp....

I have these currently in my Explorer...
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7481_Eclipse+SE8375.html

I have them powered with about 100watts in the front doors, and power with the HU in the back. They sound really mellow when at low volumes, and pretty bright at high volumes. Id recommend those too.

oh ok i understand. so the amps have different channels, is that for pushing the speakers with one, the sub with another? and then the hu has some push, which i can just put my stock rear speakers on? do you have to adjust how many watts you want pushed in each channel?

sorry about all the questions, but thanks a lot for helping me out!

The amp has 4 channels for 4 speakers. Heres what you are going to do.

Channels 1 and 2 will be used for the front right and left speakers.

Channels 3 and 4 will be bridged for the Subwoofer.

Bridging the channels basically means you are combining both the channels and turning it into one channel. The power that came out of channels 3 and 4 will now be combined for the subwoofer. Dont know how to bridge it for the sub? Click the link for the amp I suggested. Click on the expanded picture. You are going to see where the connections go it says "BR BL MONO BRIDGE". You just hook up the left and right subwoofer leads to that. Pretty straight forward.

You are going to hook up the rears with the HU. When/If you order all of the components, there will be a diagrams on what wires are for the rear speakers.

The front channels will be getting around 70-90 watts. Thats more than enough to make them loud and clear.

The amp does have a few knobs and buttons to adjust exactly how you want things to sound. You'll be able to adjust them to how ever you would like it to sound.

Pioneer is a great brand but I would still suggest Diamond Audio's sub/amp over pioneer. The pioneer HU is a great buy and always a good way to go.

I had crossfire speakers in my car and they sounded great and won't break the bank. I would also suggest a component system (the one that has speakers and tweeters) for the best sound. Get components up front and do the standard speakers in rear.

I recommend Kicker 12" CVR's to everyone when they ask. I think Kicker puts out great products. If you dont' want to buy the newer models for 150 each, i think it's woofersetc.com that sell the 07 models for 75 each. If you can afford them, and get a good amp, you WON'T be dissapointed.

drop the enclosure....drop that pioneer sub suggested...build your own enclosure and rape.

that single 12 in the sealed enclosure is nothing impressive at all...I can do better with a single 10 on half the power

Making your own box is to difficult if you don't know how to do it. If you build it wrong the sound is crapy go to a store and buy a premaid one. Also if you want a lot of thump a Kicker L5 is insane and you only have to buy one because it is so loud. also sony makes a great amp but i am still saying the best amp for a low price is an insignia.

As coolerpooler, building your own enclosure isn't a easy task.

The 12 I suggested is very good for what he wants....a decent system that sounds good.
Its not helpful for you to say the sub is no good when you don't provide him with a alternative.
Is there a sub out there that sounds better?? Yes. I picked one that sounds good, is decently priced and that is 12 inchs....everything he asked for :)

This sub would be a much better choice.

And I fully agree with building a box.
