Hey, I don't feel like going to the track, and I just heard about this G-Tech Meter. How exactly does this thing work? ie. measure times... I see it plugs into your cigarette lighter port .. so how does it know your speed like this? I kinda ... ruined my port since I put a flip switch in there for some lights, would it still work if I just gave it power by hooking it up to a 12v source? I'd add a switch and mount it so I can turn it off and on. This an idea? They're pretty cheap and it looks like they're pretty easy to use...

Yeah, just give it 12V and it will work. You can put a extra cigar/power port in your truck so you don't have to cut the g-tech power cable.

I've look at it but don't have one. It doesn't measure your speed, it measures your acceleration over time. The directions state that you have to start at 0 MPH for it to work. It uses 0 MPH as its reference point and uses cicuitry and its components to measure acceleration over time which it uses to calculate MPH many times per second. I have read somewhere, I don't remember where, that someone had compared the G-Tech to his track times (5 runs on each) and found them to be awfully close. Like, within 0.1-0.2 seconds.

how much do they cost?

I had one from www.race-technology.com and it was much better than a GTech. However, GTech just came out with a super pro (or something like that) unit.
