I just spent $175 on a new gas filler hose on my 97 ranger w/ 93k on the odometer. Needless to say i had to buy it because it would overflow where the hose meets the gas tank. I was thinking the worst when it was first happening like the gas tank was cracked but it was the hose that was cracked. I never expected a filler hose to be that much but its cheaper than buying a new tank. I was trying to think of a way to repair it but i'd rather have piece of mind with a new hose. Besides,
i dont think you could fix it since its a hose within a hose. Anyways, just wanted to share that experience with you,
Dave

That's wierd. How/why do you think it cracked?

I can only guess what the cause was, maybe just wear and tear, heat (since I live in the desert) or maybe pressure from vapor lock. It wasnt just one or two cracks, had cracks all the way around the base of the hose just below the clamp but nothing above the clamp.
The clamp is affixed to the hose meaning its not removable like the clamp you would use on a radiator hose.
