Gas gauge moves up and down

Strange thing started happening. The gas gauge will go from full (where it should be) and drops down to just over the half way mark, then slowly work its way back up to where it should be.

Earlier before I refilled it was sitting around a quarter full, but moving from E to half.

Any ideas?

I have the same proble, with my X i think that its juat an explorer thing. but not sure. would be nice to find out what causes it.
