My Gas guage just one day quit working. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting (other than checking a fuse) for this problem. Has this happened to anybody else? I would love to get some feedback to put me in the right direction. Thanking you in advance.

PCola, the majority of the time it's the float in the tank. It's a very thin-walled metal cylinder float in the tank. A small hairline crack will cause it to fill up with gas.

I did it about a year ago. Not having a working gauge was one of those little annoying things. Just like my broken tachometer! Good luck

To determine if it is the guage or in the tank is easy. All you need is a test light and an assistant. First turn the ignition to the run position then crawl under your Explorer. Find the wireing harness leading to the gas tank. There will be four wires in the loom. Probe each wire until you locate the one with power (the light will glow faint). Once you have found the wire with power (while still probing the wire) have your assistant check the guage. If it reads full the problem is in the tank.

its a game of guess and check :-)

My gauge quit about a month ago, and found out why today. I just replaced my fuel pump assembly and the brass float was full of gas. Funny thing though, after I got it out, I could squeeze the heck out of the float and no gas came out. Oh well, just glad it's over, dropping the tank and doing the pump wasn't fun. Oh well, it lasted 140,000 miles, so I guess I shouldn't complain!!
