Hey Guys,

just wondering what some of you guys that are running the 5.0 are getting for gas mileage? I am looking at a full size bronco that im pretty sure has the 5.0 but maybe the 5.8 and was wondering how awfully bad it would be on gas. Right now i am figuring that i get around 16 with explorer with a 4.0 so if the bronco gets 13-14 i would consider it.

thanks for any info,

My parents f150 with the 5.8L is a gas hog. Typically it gets around 12 mpg, 14 or 15 if they are lucky. And these numbers are with 89 octane too, with 87 it is even worse. Those numbers are an improvement too, it has a custom exhaust, k&n filter and a complete tune up. When we first got it, it was a good day if it got 10 mpg. I bronco may be a bit better on gas but I wouldn't think that it would be that much better.

i get from 16 to 18 mpg. In my 5.0.

yah,

i am lucky if i can go 250 miles on a tank of gas. I think i know the problem. I have been getting at P420 code, the one that reads: bank one cat efficiency below limit. This is either a oxygen sensor or converter right? I have cleared the code about 3-4 times now and i can go about 5-7 days before it comes back on. Gonna have to try a oxygen sensor and see if thats the problem.. Other wise, gonna have to punch the converter...

What are other people getting with a 4.0?

i had a 5.0 in a 90 f-150 and on a good day could make 19 mpg but most of the time it was 14-15 mpg

sorry a little off topic...but... Terry and Millertime, do you guys have sound clips of your 5.0s. i am trying to get an exhaust that will sound good on mine.
thanks fellas!

I'm getting only 11 mpg city in my 2000 XLT AWD 5.0. I've gotten 14 on the highway. It is really awful, not sure if anything will improve it significantly with this engine. I have around 106,000 miles on it.

I took a 100 mile trip this weekend and got 21mpg, all at 55mph.
I wish I could get that kind of mileage. Any suggestions? Have you done any modifications that help? My engine runs smooth, I have done all maintenance, not sure where the problem lies...

I still have stock exhaust on mine. Planning on getting it done this summer though. As soon as it is done though i will post it. From what i have herd from others on this site though the 5.0 sounds excellent with duals or a single pipe. It also comes down to how loud you want it too be.

If you are going for looks more then sound the Flowmaster mufflers, or Magnaflows are good, also glasspacks quit it down just enough not to piss off the neighbors. I will be going for duals no muffler personally though.

Here is a clip of somebodys explorer with Duals using Flowmaster 40's.

yea i have a 2000 5.0 awd and i get about 300 to the tank, its completly stock. thats with an even mix of highway and side roads. with no modifactions besides the k&n replacement air filter. if u do the math its about 15 gallons, seeing as how i never do let it do the full 21 gallons, if anyone knows a way to boost this up, im quite interested, also the message center is bullshittin me for mpg. it tells me i get like 17.5, im not sure if my sending unit is right tho! haha

The only things I've done so far are a MAC CAI, and Synthetic fluid in the transfer case. The best thing you can do for mileage is drive slow, speed kills mileage in these things. I normally get around 12-13mpg in mixed driving when I get into the pedal a lot.
