Fedy...

I was really intrigued by the thought of Acetone, but after research of what it does, and its normal daily usage...

I would not recomend the use of in anyone's X...

it simply is liquid errosion in a bottle. yes it will clean up the carbon, and impurities of the fuel in your tank, thus allowing cleaner combustion, but think about how once the fuel leaves the tank. acetone once it reaches the fuel pump, and the fuel lines. the acetone has the potional to errode the pump, and the fuel lines as well from the inside out...

This is what I use. I can only find it at NAPA

Every 5000 miles i just buy a new oil filer put a quart of synthetic in the filter, and dump about a half quart in the motor and go.

Well i made the trip down to OBX yesterday ( Corolla, NC )...

I drove down with my cousin, and we loaded up my explorer with a total of about 700lbs ( 500lbs was my cousin, and me lol ). we drove down with the AC on 2, and did majority of cruising @ 60-65 mph. The trip was 354 miles total.

i did some rough math, based on every 1/4 tank... I was averaging 20 MPG for the trip down. Im leaving on Saturday ( 14th ) and I will make sure i get better documentation...

but considering im quite happy with 20 MPG, compared to my local 13-14 mpg @ home.

Sounds about like what I got on my latest fishing trip. Gas mileage display on my X said 20.9 mpg average. It was all highway driving and there was a fair amount of cargo weight, and also was a lot of up-hill driving.

If you all haven't seen yet. I put a cold air intake on my 05 V6 X. The idea came off of MillerTimeX17's X's cold air intake, I just kept the stock air box and adapted the new piping to the airbox. For gas mileage with my new intake its doing about 19mpg in city. Up from my 16-17mpg in city. If you want to see my intake go to my registry page or the thread: first post in a long time

Well I changed my plugs with Autolite Platinums and man what a difference. It rips great and pulls hard and easy starts now. And on the acetone thing, my dad has been using it in his muscle cars, his new dodge hemi and all his harleys and this is since the late 70's too. It works great my X has had a couple cap fulls which you can tell when you do it as well.

Well I did the seafoam treatment on my 05. I probably didn't follow the directions and used most the container in the engine, but thats alright. She didn't want to start, on the first few tires, but she runs like a charm now, and has a kick when I floor the accelerator.

i would like to seafoam my X, in the near future...

my current goal is to get 16 mpg ( city ). Im hoping with an intake of some sort, and a seafoam treatment, and lastly a transmission flush... i hope to be @ 16 or higher with those things done...

I noticed after I put in a K&N Filter and cleaned it my gas mileage went up from .5-1mpg better than what I had. I hope to get an exhaust and be able to do 17-22mpg in city on average. My minimum in city mpg went from 10.5-12mpg, and at 40-50mpg it seems to be doing 18mpg. Up-hill it went from 11.5 to 12.0mpg.

If I purchase a muffler and install it (future plans for a whole cat-back exhaust with the 2.5-2.25 reducer eliminated)...would that give me any better gas mileage even if its 1mpg better than the stock setup?

I noticed a small gain in mpg with just a muffler, but noticed much larger gains when i went to 2.5'' pipe...

I think it may be worth saving up some money for a muffler, install that, then get the piping done in december. :D Any gain in mpg for these explorers are good  If its only 1mpg then its worth it.
