Well we have the 3.73's and the V6 and AC on our 5 speed auto 2002 Explorer.

I checked the last 'combined' driving tank and with about 600 miles on the vehicle we got 13.1 mpg!

This sucks!

Where is the 15/20mpg at???!

What mileage do others get???

600 miles??? I would say you're gonna have to get at least 2,000 miles on it before you get any real acurate MPG readings. My 97 Sport took almost 4,000 miles before it got real constant MPG. At 73,500 miles I'm getting about 20 MPG on the highway at 75MPH. The 4.0 SOHC gets its best MPG when running about 2,800 RPMs. Also, what tires/size do you have? I have 4.10's with P255/70/16's. I lost about 2-3 MPG going from my FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT's to those darn GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S's. Plus they're a harsher riding tire. I never had any problems with my Firestones, but FREE tires are FREE tires. Should have stayed with Firestones.

Yeah, 600 miles... it's still getting broken in.

my 92 x with 118,000 miles on it gets about 15-16 in the city and 20-21 on the highway....

not bad being that shes 11years old

I average a bit over 25 at 70 MPH and have gotton 32 on the highway with my 99 4.9.

Good luck......

jez...

i get around 14-15 with average driving, in-town, and some highway.

on trips i get about 17-18 with a loaded vehicle.

how the hell are you all getting 20-25??

aldive, im gonna try yur driving tips on my next tank of gas...but i seriously doubt mine will even reach 20.

Good luck, my friend, it can be done. Never listen to negative people.

on a trip to minneapolis, i got 21. the whole trip was highway so it was easy to calculate. my overall average is about 17. i have a stock truck. i love reading everyone's alteration list. how much does an exhaust system affect gas mileage. and what is the best case system that i should go with if i wanted to do some alterations.

az

A good cat back system CAN be worth several MPG.

I recommend a local muffler shop design and make a custome one for you.

Good luck.....

I agree. I went from a best of 20.7mpg to 22mpg with my exhaust and cut air box. I average 17-18mpg and I have the V8.
