So I'm about a block away from the house, and some guy was going really slow, so I went around him, and slamed on the gas....and then I heard a noise. Lucly I made it home , but the thing is just dangling by the wire. all of the bolt, at the firewall shered off. Thank god it didn't happen on the highway somewhere

happened in my 95. You have to drill and put new screws in. The factory tac welds dont hold up to lead foots ;)

yeah I just looked at my wife's truck (it's nice to have two explorers sometimes ;) ) and saw it's just spot welded. But it looks like the bracket has two holes in it, so I will make a plate for the engine side, drill the holes and bolt it back on ;) Pretty scary though :(

I saw that thread from Alldata with the service information on how to repair it. This should be considered a factory recall, since I think this is a manufacturing defect, and is dangerous. I'm surprised that nobody ever sued Ford for this. I hope that nobody had an accident as a result of it. They were building cars for over 100 years, and they still have defects on things like welded joints, seat belts, brakes, leaking seals, wiring harnesses catching fire, etc. They say that the cars today are supposed to be better than the ones of the past, yet I've never heard of problems like this on old cars. They were built out of heavier metals than today, and were more solid.

If you think Fords are bad, read some of the recalls on GM products. I know they have had several recalls for suspension parts (like A-arms) that break without warning.

I agree that Ford should have had a voluntary recall for this and added the bolts before the brackets could break off. But they didn't.

All fixed

Well I got it fixed but took some pics so other know what to look for.

Here you can see the holes where the spot welds were. they just ripped right through the fire wall, which by the way is paper thin

This is the other side, the engine side. You can actually see the cracks where it pulled it through.

This is the Bracket for the pedal it self. You can see here the three spot welds. you can also factory holes in the bracket, I drilled holes in the firewall to match, and bolted it back in. Seems to work fine.

I have to say though it was a pita to get a drill up in there.
