sorry, wrong thread location

The 4 doors have 22 gallon tanks. Look under the front or the side, an AWD will have axle shafts up front and a diff, and the transfer case right under the driver's seat.

Another check would be, can you spin the rear tires? If it's an AWD the tires will never spin in normal conditions. Welcome to the site.

thank you for your help. i noticed that i put the post in the 2002-2005 section and i have a 2001. so does the 2001 have a 22 gal gas tank too?

Ford uses a standard 22 gallon size for most full sized Fords. Smaller vehicles are different, and the F series trucks have lots of other sizes. But generally for any full sized car Ford makes, it'll be 22 gallons.

You are about to read tons of replies soon of people quoting various books and manuals. There are so many varied specs in books and manuals that you will be tired of hearing them. Never mind the 19.8, 21.7, 22.3, blah blah blah. Too many people writing those books evidently didn't own a Ford, they just had someone fill and empty a vehicle's tank and bam, they made a claim of its capacity. The people writing those books and manuals did not properly test the capacity IMO, they half-assed their test to get it done.

I have owned a bunch of big Fords. I didn't read in some book to find out how much gas it held. I've always recorded the total gas that I fill up with, every time. I regularly run close to empty. I have put right at 22 gallons in absolutely every one of these Fords, run them empty etc. I have only gotten more than 22 gallons in a couple of times, and once was 23.1 and I called the manager and state authorities about that station.

So, sorry to rant, the people who pray to books bother me a lot. Trust experience over books, real knowledge is personal and much more valuable. Regards,
