does anyone know the gas tank size on a 93 xplorer 4x4? i put 15.96 gallons in my tank today and only had 196miles on it. I have a 32in tires and a broken gas gauge. the low gas warning light doesn't work. i don't wanna run out of gas.

I think it is 19.3 gal.

i've pumped in 20.10 in my tank before with 300 miles on the tank

according to the manual for my 94 (should be the same as the 93) it is 19.3 US gallons

It's 19.3. somebody posted a link to a web site that had all vehicle specifications.

20.1 on 300 miles. 14.9 mpg sucks. average 19 on my 92 exp. depends if I'm racing. gas station was probably ripping you off (not necessarily intentionally)

you must take in to account several factors
1. It is winter , i think its a known fact that you get less mpg on the gas stations "winter fuel"
2. My idel time, the average time for the last week has been about 15degrees here so i have been letting it warm up before i go down the road.
3. where i was driving at city or highway.. if that was all highway then that would suck but its only about 25% highway and the rest city.

just reember to factor in these things....when you do 15mpg isn't that bad

I live in the poconos, up on the top of one of the mountains (bumps compared to the rockies. Average temp since before xmas has been around 10 degrees, will be lowered after this weekend (we expect zero or below). I let my vehicle warm up 7-14 minutes before doing a 66 mile commute (one way) through various back roads and hills. Although I do have a K&N filter, with platinum plugs I still can get 19.5 mpg.

I think you can do better.

92 exp

I have done better, i write down my MPG each time i get gas...I've seen a progessive decrease since the cold weather hit my area. When the weather was warmer out i was getting 17.5 to 19 mpg.
I have flowmaster exhaust
cone air filter
custom air intake tubing.
Newer spark plugs
change my oil ever 3000 miles
and drive in Drive when i'll be staying under 35mph, and in overdrive when i'll be traveling on the highway.

it just happened i drive the same way i did when it was warm with the expection of some idel time, but other than that i believe its the gas in my area

ok, so ive got a 95, but my dad put in 21.6 gal the other day, or maybe it was 22.6...i dont know, either way its alot more than ford says the tank'll hold.

If your are pumping gas with the Ex on a downhill incline, you will be able to get ~2 extra gallons in and if you're facing uphill, it'll take ~2 gallons less vs flat ground.

ive put in over 20 gallons into my 19.4 gallon tank in my 1991. i ran out of gas and drifted into the station in nutral, so it was completely empty. I also have the broken gas gage, but i am pretty sure they dont have low fuel warning lights. Ive removed my instrument cluster a few times and have never seen one.

Now, stop me if I'm wrong, but I believe the average fuel tank holds about 1 gallon more than the stated maximum. It's not so much a maximum as it is the amount of fuel that a tank can hold without spilling. Anything above 19.4, and the tank may lose fuel beyond certain angles of inclination.

fred, the newer xs have check gage lights that go off if your gas guage is on empty... the older ones didnt have anything other than the guage

Boy that one got me! I waas thinking where is that gas gauge light? Mine must be broken too!!!!!! J/K haha
