Ok back at this. Time to do some work on it.

Ok checked it out.. other than one major issue that will require a hammer i think this can be done easy.

Recap : Raising the Gas Tank up after a body lift to help prevent a little damage and make it easier to skid plate.

As my tank is fuber on the bottom a little more hammering on the top wont hurt. I will be dropping the tank Sat. Doing measurements and pictures. I am going to try for a full three inches of lift on it. If not then 2 is fine.

The Plan use 3 inch spacers out of square stock cut down and welded back (unless i can get 2x3 free). So far it looks like i'll need to for the front and two for the back. Gonna make 10 spacers just in case.. might be over kill but oh well. gonna make 10 of the 3x2 and 2x2.

One more issue is going to be the lines running on the inside of the frame. Hopefully I can work around them or get access to put them inside the spacer if need be.

Any thoughts or ideas. go for them. (dont ask for pics yet cause i aint started. go out to your truck and look under it, thats better than a pic anyways)

but dont forget to post pics tho.. and a lot of them ;) many ppl have been wondering how to drop the gas tank in order to change the fuel pump and so on. this would be beneficial in that area too.

i looked at this some more today and previsly we talked about the cross member being in the way..

well its really in the way.. see hows the body mount is on the crossmember. so i am thinking b2 gas tank or fuel cell.. more to follow

just cell it john. That damn tank has seen alot better days...lol. Fuel cells are not that expensive or hard to come by not to mention much better/safer than that twisted metal under your truck you call a gas tank. ;)

does the fact that it only holds 18.73 gallon mean something? seriously thinking of fuel celling it. but if you noticed i stuck my spare under the truck. so until i get a bumper made that can carry it.

but i have looked at this one

a 16 gallon one
and 20 bucks more but a 22 gallon tank and plastic

slap it where the spare goes and but some metal under it. call it "done", but who knows.. all has to wait till i get back for SFAS which starts on monday for a month.

i would say get the 16 gallon one and put it where the spare is and skid plate the hell out of it or it will get destroyed just like yours is now. Move the spare out of there IMO (build you a swing out like you mentioned). Im thinking that when i start getting serious about modding mine, I will cut the rear floor out and mount the cell in a "bucket" that I'll build into the floor.

Long time touch on this thread. After filling up today and getting like 17.5 pr so in the tank and the light was on I decided to crawl under and look at the tank.

Ugly just plain ugly.. i got a nice "new" dent in my tank. Big and round kind of like half a basket ball. So i crawled back under to look at it, with a fresh view and maybe see some new ideas for this...

The idea I came up with.. Replace the two crossmembers with custom bent tubing. If i have one make to use the extisting holes fot the rear most crossmember that has the body mounts on it. I can do away with the 3" block and have the bar bent to raise up and use just the stock body mounts with no blocks. On the front one i can raise it up the same amount and add a simular one in the front of the tank. It would hold the front of tank like the stock bracket and allow a mount point fot the front of the plate.

After i get the mounts/crossmembers draw up in paint I'll post the pictures. Gonna pic up a sport tank and use that in case i decide later in life to get a doubler. i can get one cheap than a fuel cell.

Gonna stop over at a shop and get some prices unless someone on here can bend some tube for me. (hint hint would be cheaper if you close by)

i think u need to focus on the SAS ;) with larger tires and more lift, gas tank clearance wont be as big of a problem.

But yeah if you're going to drop the tank, dont forget to take lots of pics ;)

problem on the SAS is time.. I have the rest of this month then i am gone till christmas almost in training. The wife is arguing the "wait till you're done" card. So I am taking care of the extras i wanted to do after the SAS, like the manual transfer swap.. skid plates.. gas tank and etc... besides this is a weekend project i think. After all the planning during the week of course.
