I wondered if any one with an OEM gas tank skid plate (for those of you with 4 doors OR Sport) could measure the length of their skid plate?? I have a Sport Trac, and after speaking to Ford and researching on my own, I was led to believe that the 98+ (through 01) Explorer 4 door and Mounties have the same skid plate that I needed. After triple-checking the part number, I bought a skid plate online (ebay unfortunately).

Long story short, the directions are for 98-01 4 doors / mountaineers, though the skid plate measures about 43"... and it is SHORT :fire:  i.e., it looks like I need about 52" or so. The mounts fit, so I know it is for a similar vehicle.

Well, I learned a lesson. Now I am trying to verify which vehicle it should go to. It looks like it'd be for a sport...

Anyone??!! I guess, I'll have to figure out an alternative to measurements. No one I know has an ex with a tank skid.
