My gear selection marker got out of position. It still move but it looks wrong. For example: if you want to select "D" you have to move the gear selection up to "2". The Neutral is then "D". How can I get it back to the normal position?

Thanks!

there is a little adjuster wheel in the steering column. remove the bottom cover and get up in there to look. you'll see a little white (i think its white, maybe black) plastic wheel with teeth on it like a gear. its about 1/2" diameter. spin that and watch your needle move. there is a picture of the exact piece in a thread somewhere here if you don't see it, so try search a little while for that thread. it helps to follow the shifter cable location through there and you should be able to find it easily. its not really hidden.

Gear mark out of position....

First... thanks JasonB for replying. I tried to look for the adjuster but it was pretty difficult to find it. I removed the lower and upper covers from the steering wheel and don't saw something similar to your description. I'm asking myself if I should remove the dash panels (which looks like a big job).

Would you please send me some search "alias" to look for the picture here?

Thanks

Remove the outer plastic part under the column, then remove the metal plate and you should be able to get to the adjustment wheel.

I have used that adjuster wheel too. It is really not that hidden or hard to find on my 99X.
I just put the seat all the way back, get down in the floor on your back and look up underneath the dash. Search around with a flashlight right in the middle, between the hood release and the steering column. It is a white gear looking wheel. Once you find it, just spin it and watch your indicator move. Mine takes a lot of spinning to make a small adjustment, so keep turning.
Hope this helps.
Ken
PS: I did not have to remove any dash panels or parts at all.

Found it!

:banghead:

Finally found the adjuster wheel!! It's a black plastic bolt and it's head is like a gear but it is intended to help get a grip while adjusting it manually. It runs between a plastic part with a "U" form. So this black bolt runs through it two times making tension on the metal cable that moves the marker. It basically works like the brake cable adjuster on a bicycle.

For my bad luck, the upper part of this "U" plastic part is broken. This little part is the one with the threads for the black bolt. The lower part just serves as a guide. That's why my marker got out of position.

I will check if I can find this part over the Internet. Thanks a lot fot all your help guys!!

Regards,

I just remember... the upper part of the "U" part doesn't have treads. It just keeps the black bolt on place. The lower part has the threads but it needs the upper to function. Well.... I will look for the part.

Thanks again

Had the same part break on me, Ford wants $30 for the part and that includes the whole assembly cable and all. Here's a pic..

mine is broken as well. i got a thin piece of wire and wrapped it around the assembly and tied it off. also some good ole duct tape for added security. its been holding that way for about a year and a half now without a problem. good luck.
