Gear selector Problems

So my wife called me on her lunch hour and said she's can't get the explororer out of park and into drive. Its an 03 V8 Sohc with 111k miles. It feels sloppy when you try to put it in gear (on the column)

Would it be the selector lever on the column that's bad or something in the transmission?
