gear shifter broke off.

i have a 2002 mercury mountaineer. just today the shifter snapped off when trying to get it out of park. now the lever is just hanging on by the overdrive wire. any ideas how to fix and how much?

There was a thread on this posted not too long ago....see if you can find it in a search. Member posted pictures, and showed how to do the repair fairly easily. Personally I was surprised to see that it snapped, and now even more surprised to see it's not an isolated incident....
