Hi guys,
If I'm travelling at, say, 70mph and I have to take my foot off the pedal, when I press it again, the gearbox will come out of fifth and the torque converter will have unlocked. After about 100 yards it will go back into fifth.
If I can keep a tiny ammount of pressure on the pedal, even though I'm slowing down slightly, when I gently accelerate, it does stay in fifth.
My question is, does any of yours, at 70mph stay in fifth if you let go of the pedal and then eccelerate again?

Thanks, Kev.

its set at 55mph to drop in at gentle cruise, any hills to annoy it will drop into 4th. 5th gear is big and heavy.

Hello There,
Its quite hot today around 50c, while coming back home from work, my ford explorer start to slow down , when I pressed gas pedal only engine screamed but gear wasn’t changing or like very less torque I was getting, I also noticed RPM needle on Speedo meter was jerking like dancing & some point just down to zero, ?? Any advise what to check or change??
Regards
Matie

did you tap the O/D button to take it out of 5th? i know its not the normal procedure to do, could mean a sensor or load sensor is not working, could try a ecu reset by discconnecting the battery for 15/20min.

No Mate, I didnt tap OD button, I suspect something to do with RPM neeedle? U know there is Gear ration or converter switch out of the gear box & cable going to speedo meter ! not sure if that is malfunctioning causing RPM needle jumping up & down, misleading gear shifting ??

I can disconnect power & see what happen, mean while can you pleas explain how to check load sensor & where is located?
Regards

Hi Again,
bit more info, I went underneath to check speed sensor, found nothing unusual, (unless its broke inside, didn’t open yet). But its confirmed something to do with speed (RPM of the engine, I do agree with you my PCM is not getting correct speed signal, I assume VSS is Velocity Speed Sensor? & it's located on 11 –o – clock position (view from rear of the truck) at the transmission, & its fixed by one screw right! If so then how can I confirm or any way to test this sensor?
Another question how Speedo analog meter is driven?
Thanks for you guys help,
Cheers
Matie

Gear box / Automatic transmission,

I've taken snap short of transmission, plz. explain the electrical components,
regards

I feel like my thread has been robbed. boo hoo.

Hi Kev, my Ex does exactly the same as yours, taking my foot off accelerator makes RPM go up 500 then back on accelerator the RPM s drop again thought this was normal?
Terry.

I did checked the resistance 229.7 Ohms, connector looks good, gears yellow color, is perfect, God knows what's the problem, Still laying somewhere there, causing me grief, cant use the only truck I have !!!

Thanks for your reply Terry.
I would have thought at 70mph or faster, that it should have stayed in fifth or at least the torque converter should stay locked up.
I might try adjusting my throttle postion sensor again to make it think that the throttle is still slightly open.
I know there is something wrong because I was 'forced' to race an idiot in a mondeo down the motorway [know what I mean:D] and my transmission light came on. First time its done that in over a year.
Cheers mate.

Hi Again,
All was fine once I fixed the short VSS wiring problem, Removing battery terminal - only for 15 minutes Check engine alarm was gone & all was fine last night,
This morning “Check Engine” alarm was on ! while reversing I found bit different noise then the normal like bit slipping gears but truck moved back,
I only removed SVV last night & fixed back, no other work was done at transmission, what could go wrong ?ANY chance if I over tight VSS holding nut ? and it could cause this?
But speedo meter works very well
Regards

the only way to get code is taking the truck to the dealer that cost 350 AED /97USD I am just trying not to go there, , no other way around?
