Hi, just need some advice on checking transmission fluid...do i need to do this in drive or neutral.
Also gearbox seems to be kicking down when changing up from 2nd to 3rd.
It stays in second longer than usual then revs high for a second then engages 3rd, please help.;)

Fluid levels

Hello to check the fluid level the car need to be run to normal temp, then you have to put the car through every gear slowley whilst parked then into nuetral with the engine running. handbrake on also! Then pop the hood and remove the dipstick and check the fluid level for the gear box. you should be looking at a very clean almost clear red tinged fluid that is near the high level on the dipstick. If its low add some to bring to required level and then cycle through the gears again and leave in nuetral with car running to check final levels.

If after this you found the fluid to be brown ar dark red, smelling burnt...........I am afraid you will have to do a fluid change, your fluid is contaminated and causing the problem probably.
You will find threads here on how to do that, it is worth doing as a replacement box is around £1000!

Good luck
