After months of searching, reading, pondering, contemplating, and, ahh, thinking, I have broke down and decided to get an exhaust. I have decided on a Delta 40 series with 2.25" pipe routed through the stock location. I think this will give a nice amount of sound without being to overpowering. With the 2 and a quarter pipe I should still maintain a good amount of torque as well. The reason I am posting this is I am wondering if anyone has any advice or hints for me before I have this done tomorrow afternoon. Are there any things to avoid to prevent resonating as far as tips, routing, and pipe size? Is there anything to help any drone I may get? Will I be happy? If anyone has any advice before I have this done, I would greatly ppreciate it. I will gladly post pics tomorrow since I now how much you guys love pics. Thank you very much, Kyle.

that setup above sounds good....

dont get a big ole tip or a resonated tip, and all will be fine.....

Best tailpipe outlet for offroading is to go straight out back but end before it's under the bumper. Get the end of the pipe slash cut.

Alec - I was considering doing this instead of behind the tire. Will this have any effect on the sound? And by that, I mean will it be louder or quieter? Quieter is better for me.

if you drop it down behind the rear axle it will be slightly louder than if you just ran it out the back and had it slash cut like Alec said...

Its in!

I decided to have it go out the side like before since I am probably going to get a new bumper and I'm not sure how it will line up. I had them kind tuck the tip up so it is less prone to getting hit and I think I shouldn't have a problem.

As far as the muffler, I am suprised. I thought it would be a lot louder. It has a nice rumble at idle and a nice tone to about 25 hundred rpms. After that it somewhat goes away. Or at least from the inside. On the freeway I practically can't hear it. Which is exactly what I wanted. After it breaks in it should have a nice sound to it. Thanks for everyones help and if anyone has questions, let me know. So far I am very satisfied.

Congrats.

I'd look into getting mudflaps though, or you're gonna be flinging stuff directly up into the tip.

After one day I like it even more. The sound has started to really form and it sounds awesome. I have gotten nothing but complements on it. There is no drone or resonating whatsoever. On the freeway I can't hear it at all. After it really breaks in I'll let everyone know what the sound is like. So far, I reccomend delta flow 40's to everyone. It sounds really good for only a v6.

Alec - I agree. I am going to look into getting a pair, I just don't want anything too big or anything that is advertising for someone.

Get the Ford ones directly from your dealer. At least you're only advertising what you are driving.

How much did the whole setup run?(with installation). I would like to do the same thing, but I dont know what to get. I was next to a Mustang Cobra and when he took off, it had a real deep sound, I loved it. Thats how I want mine to sound. Which is louder? 40 or 50?

40 is louder. glad to hear you like it, ive got one on the way and was worried it might be too loud.

it looks good but you forgot to put the WHOOOOO WHOOOOOO tip on it:D

the whole thing cost $225 with tax. The sound is deep at low rpm and it mellows way out after 2k. I'm not sure if that is the delta thing or what. I also had a buttload of soundproofing in the backend. I'm sure that contributes to helping out interior noise.

Not sure about you guys, but I like interior noise. Nobody else drives my X so that's the only way I can really hear it. I like seeing the Flowmaster charts that show the interior sound and exterior, it shows outside it's like twice as loud. You're right, in the higher RPM's it's harder to hear, but it's still a great muffler! I have the non-delta and it's very loud, sounds great idling too! But a straight-pipe, geeeeeeeezus! Before I put the pipe on during my install, I started it, and it was SO loud. The pipe with the big curve makes a big difference in the sound. Yours is straight so I bet that thing is loud. It also takes a few weeks to get to its max sound level.
