i want to get everyone's opinion. My x's headlights dont work. I need a new lamp out warning module. I can get one for about $45 from a junk yard and it works. My question is, this shop is trying to get me to spend $425 to fix the problem. That isnt including the module. Do these modules just go bad or did something cause it to go bad. The shop guy told me that if i put another one in there it would blow right away and i would have to keep replacing them. Am i getting jerked around or should i pay the $425 to get the "wiring problem fixed"?

Please help me out guys, this shop is starting to get on my nerves with spending all this money

Thank you all so much
Geoff

I would suggest taking it to another shop and see what they say.

I don't know how common the modules go out, more than likely, it's just the module and not the wireing.

but take it to another shop.

also maybe someone here might have more insite...

I'd just swap the module. If it goes.. it goes. But it probably won't. Saving you tons of cash.

PS. Isn't Davenport IA in the movie Tommy Boy somehow? Ha.

Geoff that 96 sure gives you lots of problems:(

I would risk the $45 loss on the module to potentially save $425. The module can just go bad.

thanks for you help guys. I was thinking i would just get the module and try and save $425. Yeah 88vert, this thing has a lot of little things gone wrong. I hope this is it. Other than this the thing works great. The headlights and the loud noise when shifting are the only problems now. Quite a few of the guys on here have replaced that module, from what i can see, and i havent heard them complaining of that not solving the problem. Three ford dealerships told me that the headlamp out warning module doesnt exist. Yet right on the part number stamp it says the part number and "Lamp out warning module". FORD DEALERSHIPS!!!!

Thanks again, and if anyone else has any insight, let me know.

I read on one of the newsgroups that if you open up the module very often it is just a crack in the solder joints and you can just redo them with a soldering iron. If you can solder then it's worth a shot and it's free.

If you go that route, be very careful, as the heat can mess up a soldered connection easily....
