Hello all

One of the strangest things I have ever dealt with. Here is the background. I have a 98 ford explorer xlt. key fob broke a long time ago and we never replaced it so we just use key to unlock doors. Recently, my daughter discovered that if you turn the key twice, all the doors will unlock. Hey, neat trick!

Well, today my wife tried to open the front driver's side door this way and all of the sudden all of the locks start locking and unlocking over and over again. We couldn't get the other doors open. To get it to stop, we removed the fuse for the door lock system. Now, we can unlock each door just fine with the key but can't use the unlock buttons on the inside. This will get annoying after a while. Any ideas on what the heck could be causing this?

Best,

Abandon all hope....

Tim you have irritated the ghosts that inhabit all Explorers
and now all hope is lost.:)

The first thing to try is to spray WD-40 into the driver's
side lock and work the key back and forth a few times.
If the probem's the electrical switch sticking, this might
loosen it up...

I agree with runnin'onempty. Try the WD-40. Its electrical and sometimes trying to figure out the cause of a short or any electrical problem is difficult. My 98's keyfob broke, and I also discovered the trick of all the door unlocking. I wish you the best of luck solving this problem and hopefully the WD-40 will work for you.

Question: Does this also happen when you unlock the X via the passenger door and rear hatch?

the power of wd-40 compells you!

Indeed, the oil of exorcism worked! Thanks guys!
