So we packed up at 4 am and headed up to the pipeline today, 3 1/2 hours of driving and I am climbing the biggest rocks yet in my Ex, and what happens, I am spotting my roommate and I see gear oil on the rocks, so I go look at my EX and I realize I did it, punched a hole in the top of my Dana 35, that is the problem with piecing together a lift from a solid axle swap. No fear on that one, Diff whack daddy has my 4.56 diff in the mail and I hope it gets here soon. So I am like piss on it, I am gonna keep climbing and I will stay out of the mud. Then on the next obstacle and Pshhhh, my brakes go to the floor, I wasn't gonna take off my sway bar up front until I got the extended lines, and so far have not been able to flex that at all, but I guess I did today, ok who cares, kinda funny. I guess I underestimated my Explorers front end flex. I was impressed as hell with what I did till that point, and driving home with 3 brakes was a *****. Other trail damage, Bill grenaded his Dana 30 in his 67 Bronco. Gonna have some pics soon and we found some slickrock there too so it was a whoop ass day on the trails. Kinda funny, Bill has a dana 44 sittin on the shelf waitin to go in his rig too, so all in all all repairs were already paid for, or expected to be done soon. I guess I do need those bump stops after all. My question?
Since the Dana 35 is not like a sealed case who thinks it would still be functional if I made a perfect circle and made a plug fit in it directly on the top? Just curious if I were to ever lower it and go back to 3.73's to trade in or if I got a trail only truck.
Oh yeah, ExplorerEddie was riding along, and I think he is gonna keep his ex for the street but buy a Jeep and turn it into a trail truck. He was sold to the other side today, as well as I think I may look into a 94 Grand Cherokee with
a. A v8 (power to pull my boat)
b. a solid axle
c. a reliable transmission
not that I will sell out on the Explorer I am just thinking of my all around needs and am thinking I want a second
"business bought" vehicle and one can be set up "a little bit more hard core" for the trails while the other can be bigger than stock but used as my business truck

Talk about a limited edition, dan is the only one who got the automatic left turn option. Just push on the brake and you turn left (Not recommended for vehicles that need to turn right and brake)! The 8 1/2 inch lift he has was awesome on the trail (1st block) but more importantly it made a great enterance marker when we were coming back! Just giving you a little sh*t dan, I was really excited to get up there and see what that badass explorer can do and since I only rode in a jeep (with daredevil adam) ofcourse I'm gonna want one of those :D We need to get some people on this board to come next time!

Dont count on Daimler Chryler having a reliable tranny.

HAHAHAHA! LOSER! Breaking $hit while wheelin! HAHA!
Sucker!
Just giving ya a hard time... At least you got a running explorer!
Pete

I put a hole in my front diff when i jumped my truck on accident when i was in Flagstaff with rick. Came home pulled it had it welded shut and no problems sense. Probably 10 trips on it.

Dan Dan Dan....You got the touch, dude. :)

I'll be picking up new my truck in your neighborhood next saturday. Some town Northeast of Madison...Anywhere near you? E-mail me for the name of the town.

I'd love to see your damage!!!! he he...

This is a jeep, not a Ram, and I will say I trust a Jeep tranny more than my A4LD

Jim, what city? If you take the interstate you will miss me completely but if you take a 90/94 to LaCrosse and then the river to the Cities it will be a little longer but perhaps we could hook up. Not much to see, a pumpkin with a hole in it, and a broke brake but I will have some pics developed by then, and on Sunday evening I plan on having my wheelin buddies over for a cookout and view the tapes so you are welcome to get a bite to eat and see some footage if It is Sunday you are coming through

Im not just talking Rams. I know that all the minivans we had (Chrysler and Plymouth) had really crappy trannies. One was on its 3rd at about 120k miles

How do you weld this shut? I am curious because I need to know what type of metal the diff is made out of.

Got my pictures uploaded from the trip, check them out at my new website Http://ExplorerEddie.Homestead.com/Pipeline.html
Only 11 pictures were worth using. I had about 8 that didn't turn out because of inadequate light and some other pics I took of other things. I have a friend at work that took some pictures of his trip down to Lansing and he is going to let me scan them. He said twice a year they have a get together at a farmer's field and they go mudboggin. I didn't think it would be that great but I forgot its IOWA so their fields are like miles long! He said that there is like 500 people there every year. The next one is Easter, they just had one a few weeks ago. We are all invited to go!

Yeah I say use the Grand for the trails :p

Hey, did you miss the turn for the soccer game too?

:)

You know according to some purists, you can't be wheeling that thing, it might get scratched or something..

Great Grand shot!
