So we packed up at 4 am and headed up to the pipeline today, 3 1/2 hours of driving and I am climbing the biggest rocks yet in my Ex, and what happens, I am spotting my roommate and I see gear oil on the rocks, so I go look at my EX and I realize I did it, punched a hole in the top of my Dana 35, that is the problem with piecing together a lift from a solid axle swap. No fear on that one, Diff whack daddy has my 4.56 diff in the mail and I hope it gets here soon. So I am like piss on it, I am gonna keep climbing and I will stay out of the mud. Then on the next obstacle and Pshhhh, my brakes go to the floor, I wasn't gonna take off my sway bar up front until I got the extended lines, and so far have not been able to flex that at all, but I guess I did today, ok who cares, kinda funny. I guess I underestimated my Explorers front end flex. I was impressed as hell with what I did till that point, and driving home with 3 brakes was a *****. Other trail damage, Bill grenaded his Dana 30 in his 67 Bronco. Gonna have some pics soon and we found some slickrock there too so it was a whoop ass day on the trails. Kinda funny, Bill has a dana 44 sittin on the shelf waitin to go in his rig too, so all in all all repairs were already paid for, or expected to be done soon. I guess I do need those bump stops after all. My question?
Since the Dana 35 is not like a sealed case who thinks it would still be functional if I made a perfect circle and made a plug fit in it directly on the top? Just curious if I were to ever lower it and go back to 3.73's to trade in or if I got a trail only truck.
Oh yeah, ExplorerEddie was riding along, and I think he is gonna keep his ex for the street but buy a Jeep and turn it into a trail truck. He was sold to the other side today, as well as I think I may look into a 94 Grand Cherokee with
a. A v8 (power to pull my boat)
b. a solid axle
c. a reliable transmission
not that I will sell out on the Explorer I am just thinking of my all around needs and am thinking I want a second
"business bought" vehicle and one can be set up "a little bit more hard core" for the trails while the other can be bigger than stock but used as my business truck
