2004 sport trac
After 4+ years looking for a sport trac i finally found one. So, now i have to buy a few things for it and on the list, only from what i here from people who say they are great to have is side window visors. I looked on ebay for a set of 4 and found some for under $19 shipped. So my question is what brand(s) should i avoid or are they all pretty good? and i'll squeeze another question in. My sport trac doesn't have the factory sub and i didn't see any wiring for one. If i want to add one how far up to the radio do i have to go to find the wiring for it? I'll do some searching on here but are there any must do mods that are common knowledge for an '04 4x4? thanks for any info.

AVS and Ventshade are two great companies. I've had my in-channel vent shades on for over six years now with no issues. For other mods just look around the forum, it's never ending.

welcome, My truck came with them so I would have to go with the poster above . Avs or Ventshade. They really are great to have. I have found several good mods by looking around this forum and mysporttrac.com. I also have found some decent stuff on ebay as well . good luck

Thanks, i'll definitely go with one of the 2

I'll check them out too. thanks

I still haven't bought any visors, but I came up with one more question with the in channel visors. Since they go right against the window does that create wind noise? and if you spray that area with a hose does it let the water in?

I have some in channel visors from Weathertech on my VUE. A little bit of wind noise with the window closed. But they are worth it to be able to leave the windows open so it's not 150 degrees in the car.

The EGR in channel visors easily passed my leak test after two back-to-back car washes due to flooding. (Undercarriage)
Regarding added wind noise, nothing substantial. Besides aesthetics, another reason I chose low profile in channel visors.

I got AVS in channel visors, no wind noise problems but I had to make some modifications so it'd let the window close. Every window caught them, so I had to cut the tap off the front visors, and cut an angle into all the visors so the window will push the visor away as it goes up. If that makes sense?

i have AVS in channel and love them. the added wind noise is minimal

Unknown about those issues, but I would assume that sitting closer in to the window area of the truck, it should actually cause less wind noise than the stick-on ones. As for water, I think they are tested pretty well in design. As long as your window is closed tight, you should be fine.

That brings me to another point about the in-channel ones - when I got the visors for my RAV, the counter guy (whom I've known for several years) said that he's heard reports of the in-channel causing extra strain on the window motor. He couldn't cite anything in particular, so take it for what it's worth, but it's something to keep in mind - maybe someone with in-channel visors could weigh in on how the motor performs...

I also have the in channel AVS vent shades and they don't create any extra wind noise that I can tell. I've never had any water problems with them. The only problem I've had is the right rear catches. I just haven't taken the time to add some new tape to the one corner of it. Definitely worth having in IMO since I always like the windows down even if it's raining.

thanks for the feedback. I keep going back and forth on which to get but It seems like in channel is the way to go but I did find a set from ford for just under $30 shipped but they're stick on ones.

Just do what I did and add a chamfer to it, so that way the window will push it out the way instead of catching.

Its on the back though so there's not as much room as up front. I did that to my front passenger window with my old set. I'll have to actually take some time and look at it. For now I'm rolling without doors so I don't care about my windows.

I would say go with the in channel ones. I see a lot of the stick on ones falling off. The in channel ones are basically pressed into the tape every time you close the window reinforcing the stickiness.

I purchased the AVS In Channel as well about 2 months ago and found no additional wind noise. If anything it reduced the small amount of wind noise I had been getting. And truck has been washed a couple times since they were put in. And I found no issues with water making its way inside.
