Hey guys, I need a low voltage power wire to operate a relay. Do any of you know a good place near the drivers seat to splice because I don't want to put in a new fuse and wire just for a relay.

What are you operating?

It will be a 30 amp relay placed on a factory wire used to cut power that operates my auto 4wd (the 2wd mod).
I just want to know where I should get power from for my switch to activate the relay...

Well, the power seat wires are there, but they're active all the time and I don't know if you want that. Why not just put a switch on the stock wire rather than messing with a relay and all that stuff. I don't understand how using a relay directly off a signal wire is better, unless you're omitting that you'll put a switch on the signal wire.

The wire that I'm putting the relay on is somewhat hi-voltage, and I don't have a 30-amp switch so I'm using a 30-amp relay on that wire. I want a 12volt wire from somewhere near the drivers seat that can easily be used as the signal wire (which will have a switch on it).

is that better :)

ok :)

I say look for the power seat wire if you have power seats. Besides that, I don't know of any power wires that run on the driver side, they all run on the pass side.

I was reading up on this 4wd to 2wd mod thread myself. I've read half of it so far (it was 13 pages long, I think). The way I understand it is that you do not need a relay for that brown wire. A good rated switch would be enough to handle the load of that 16-gauge brown wire.

psychotic, you wanna share and tell me the other half of the thread? Does it have a happy ending? :D Is there a long term bad effect on the tranny?

No long term bad effect. I just know that mine might be a bit different cause its a 2002. The only guy on there who did it to an 02 used a relay... so as long as his explorer isn't burnt up :)
