Well, I got another car tonight. I bought a 91 Hyundai Excell for $150 :) . Its got a 1.5 liter motor, and a 4 speed manual. Very little rust, and a spotless interior. It just needs a new battery, and I need to adjust the clutch. How do I always manage to find cheap cars? Its weird.lol. I just turned 18 and this is my 7th vehicle. Well, just thought I'd let ya'll know I got a new car.

no, Im gonna put as little money into this car as possible. Its just going to be a winter beater. Im really thinking of buying another Ex in the spring depending on weather or not I keep my F150.

I wish I could actually have a winter beater, and could actually treat it as a beater.

F14CRAZY you should check out the local police auctions. I just moved from Ann Arbor MI, I have bought a bunch of beaters from these autions for 100 bucks.
72 buick skylark
86 ford taurus
94 dodge neon
91 merc sable
88 ford ranger
92 accura
96 hyundai excell
In many cases i'd beat on them for awhile and then sell them for more then I bought them for.

Well...my dad's friend is a used car dealer and we get to go with him to wholesale auctions and stuff. But when I get another vehicle, this is what happens. My XL was actually supposed to be for parts for another project, but I found it was too good of a rig to mess with. But wait, there's more...

A brand X, model X, year XXXX.

Well gee, the transmission oil is looking pretty bad (send to transmission mechanic, installs new filter/gasket. Ehh, might as well put synthetic oil in there too. Ehh, why not Mobil 1?)

Change engine oil and filter. Well, in the past week, it hasn't burned a lick of oil. I suppose it deserves a better grade of oil (Mobil Driveclean or homebrew mix with some Mobil 1)

You know, the audio on this beater sucks. I can't stand it (new Pioneers, $200. That head unit sucks azz too. Another wad of cash)

It's dirty. Run it through the car wash. Hmmmm...pick up some turtle wax on the way back. Man o man, this paint is in nice shape. Run back to the store to get touch up paint)

Oh blast. Headlight burned out. Time to pick up some white ones from ebay ($30 or so) Aren't they pretty?

Tires are bald. Dumps $300 on tires. Wheels are dirty from brake dust (buys degreaser, goes home and cleans) Brakes suck. Replaces pads, drums, rotors, bleeds system.

Muffler has a gaping hole in it and sounds awful. Goes to muffler shop, dumps $200 on new catback system.

Interior is shot. Takes an entire Saturday to vacuum, wipe, disinfect, remove stains, etc. Much much better.

It ain't running that great. New plugs, wires, oxygen sensor. Bosch Platnium 4s ain't cheap, but it sure runs a ton better. Might as well dump in a bottle of synthetic Techron in the gas, and Sea Foam in the intake just for luck.

How much did this beater cost? $100? I must have a disease or something, cuz I can't stand not spending money like above :p

Well thats the thing about owning a beater car you have to know when to say when my rule of thumb is I dont put more then half of what I paid for the car in it. So basicly when the car needs 50 dollars wearth of repairs I junk it or sell it.

Welcome to the beater club. I've been beatin' since '98 on a toyota pos. Had to put some valve stem seals on it, spark plugs, water pump, and tires. It's been 80K miles since then and still going strong and getting 36mpg.
