Got a little problem with my amp

Alright guys I need you help. I have an Autotek ss-225 pushing a 10" solobaric single. The problem is, there is now power going to the sub. The power light is on on the amp, all the fuses are good. There is a very small spark when the + and - speakers are touched, nothing like when it is pushing power. Whats the deal? Thanks for your help.

Do you have RCA's if so check them. ON the amp and on the deck.

sorry i forgot that, i don't have rca's yet, i still have the stock HU.
the connection at the amp is ok.

I would take the amp to the place where you purchased the amp and ask them to check it out. they should do it for free. Have you tried do adjust the gain?

Might not be the amp

You might have blow out your sub. Sounds wierd but I have done it before with lesser quality sound equipment that I have now. At first I thought that it was my amp to because I was having the same problem as you.

Go to Radio Shack and spend 2 dollars on an adapter that connects the headphone mini-jack and converts it to male RCA connectors. You can connect a walkman up to it (keep the walkman volume low at first) to see if the input is okay. If it's playing, then it's not the amp. If it's still not playing, the amp probably is damaged. For one thing, I don't think you're supposed to be seeing any little sparks anywhere anyway, so if you keep testing that way, you'll kill the amp, cause the power will be arcing without any resistance between the + and -.

get your sub out of your truck and hook it up to your house stereo. there will be a differnt load impediance. your house reciever most likey has 8 ohms and a car has 4 ohms. but that wont really matter for a short test and see if the speaker still works.

Diagnosis successful

My roommate and i hooked my sub up to his amp to see if indeed if it was the amp or the sub. Well, the sub didn't work in his car. We took it up to the dorm room and took the speaker out and checked everything and hooked just the speaker up to the receiver in the room and still nothing. So, blown sub.

Jtang, Like with any electrical connection, If a + and a - are touched together it will spark and cause a short, I did this to see if power was going to the speaker. No, this is not good, but that's what the fuse is there for.

I hope you checked the connections INSIDE the box before you tossed it. Could have gotten a loose wire over time.

I didn;t chuck anything out. My roommate and i took the speaker out to make sure it wasn't anything internal either.
