I'm so happy! I ifnally got my subs today. They're two MTX Thunder 6000 12's in a grey sealed box, with a MTX Thunder304 amp mounted on the back side, and a 1-farad MTA capacitor. I worked for a guy I know who had them in his old car and doesnt have any use for them anymore. I dug trenches in his crawlspace under his new house, next week I'm digging a hole to put a small well in, and helping lay down tiles, as well as other odd jobs. Next Saturday, if I can make it over there again, I'll be picking up 2 Sony XPlod 12's (not sure if they're ES or other model) and a set of JBL GTO 6 3/4" component speakers, and a digital bass thing (I forgot what its called) that like doubles the bass before it gets to the subs, so the hit twice as hard. But for it to work I'll prolly have to get a new amp. The 300 watt that pushes the 12's now does a great job the way its set up, so I might leave it. I'm just so excited that I finally got them :):):):):):):):)

that's cool. now you will hear what you've been missing in your music.

Congratulations! That bass thing is really cool. A few people make them, but the most common is AudioControl. It really cleans up the bass a lot! Does thsi mean you'll have a pair of Sony's and MTX's in your trunk?

Have fun!

First take that MTX amp off the back of the box. It is a very bad idea to mount an amp there for 2 reasons:

1. The vibrations from the subs will tear the inside of the amp apart which will slowy decrease it's performance and eventually kill the amp.

2. It is so much easier now to steal your amp and subs. It's literally cutting the time it takes to steal the system in half since the theif wouldn't have to unscrew the amp. Mount it on the rear seat or under it some where.

Also it's a very bad idea to have 2 different types of subs in a system. The MTX and Sony subs have different senstivity ratings, frequency responses, and a ton of different specs. In other words it's really gonna sound weird. You also don't need that 1-Farad cap. You are only gonna be putting out 300-350 watts. You don't even need a half farad cap for that. Usually those digital bass things will help boost the signal and will definately clean the bass up. It should help because MTX subs aren't know for SQ.

Also have fun squeezing those 6.75" speakers in the stock 5x7 location. You are gonna have to be very exact when making an adapter plate for them.

Good luck.

Steve

The Sony subs will not be used with the MTX, I will sell them to someone. I dont like Sony in a car anyway. I didnt buy these, I just made a deal and got the whole thing as-is. I dont know why he put the capacitor on there, unless he once had a larger amp on there. He used to compete with them, and he used the bass thingy, so he was cheating :) I know the subs can push around 450-500 easy, just not with this amp. For now, the amp stays where it is, as well as the cap, because its not in the truck right now, they'll prolly set in my room for a year, unless my parents can find a way to live with the bass. And I'll prolly have to get a new HU and speakers, or else everything will be out of whack, dont you think?

Sit in your room for a year!! Why'd you get them now? Seems a little odd to me. Oh well it's your X, or your parents I dunno.

The opportunity came up so I jumped on it before it was gone. I figured that a few days of hard work was equal to or better than paying about $900 later on whenever I have insurance, payments, gas, repairs, and other mods to pay for. And theres a lot of work being done to pay for them, its not like I'm sweeping his floor and getting a load of equipment worth over $1K for nothing, THAT would be odd. I'd be suspicious then.

2 12" 6000's, a 304, and a cap aren't worth over a grand. More like $600 tops. I hope you didn't pay more than that for what you got. Especially cause it's used.

Steve

By the grand I meant what I have now plus the two Sony 12's, JBL speakers, all wiring, and the digital bass thingy, that should be over a grand paired with everything I have now. I didnt pay a dollar for any of this, just regular hard labor for a friend, and I dont regret making the deal, not the least bit. I was proud of myself, in fact :)

GOOD JOB!!

Hey Steve, (or anyone else) what do you think I should do with the amp? It can power the subs alright, they seemed to before, but I'm thinking that more power to them cant hurt. The amp now is 75wattx4 runnin at 2ohms, 300 watt. The subs can run 250 RMS a piece, so do you think somewhere around 600 watts? I wont be dipping into the peak power often, so I dont think I need any more. But I'm not really much experienced at amps. And you think I should save the 304 for all the door speakers?

The 304 would be best for the door speakers, but if you want it could power the 6000's alright. Just bridge the amp. You will get 150 watts to each sub @ 4 ohms.

Steve

Ok, that sounds good to me. Now, what about that polyfill box stuffing? Does anybody use or have experience with it? Its supposed to slow down the sound waves inside the box to make it sound better or something, and I took the subs out when I was cleaning them, and its pretty empty inside the box, and its a very big box, when its in the cargo area, theres maybe 2 inches on each side between the box and fenderwells.

I'm considering getting rid of the capacitor, theres a guy at school who might want it. Think I should replace the 1-farad with 1/2-farad? Or just not bother with caps?

And just ooooooneee more question :) Would there be any way I could hook the subs and everything up with the stock system just every now and then to show somebody how they soudn or something? Or would I need a special harness or something like that?

I guess thats the one problem with this, I got this stuff and know fairly good how it works, just not how to MAKE it work. But, I have a year or so to figure it all out :)

Thanks for all the help!

if your box is big, then dont worry about stuffing it. that is usually for small enclosures.

if your amp has high level inputs, then you could hook it up to the stock system. but i dont think it's worth it. you're much better off with the aftermarket set up.

It will also sound much better with RCA's so don't bother installing it twice. Just wait till you've got everything and do it right.

You don't need the cap, but it couldn't hurt so the choice is up to you.

Well, I've pretty much given up on a new cd changer, so I think I want to get a double DIN headunit, that has a tape deck and in-dash cd. Its Aiwa's WD-X500M http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/...asp?pp=29321&i=570WDX500M&o=&a=&s=0&display=L
I figure its easier and cheaper to just buy a new HU with everything in it than getting a new HU and changer. I also have my eye on some Kicker Impulse 5x7's for the rear doors and 5 1/4 Impulse components for the fronts. As far as amp, I dont really know what would be best.
