Hello everyone!
My name is Chris Johnson and I've been a lurker for over 6 months. In all that time I have received a lot of advice by simply reading. Now, I feel that the success I have had with my own 1995 2 Door Ford Explorer (Expedition trim) should be shared.
So far I've done the following things with my Explorer:
1) K&N Air Filter ($37.80)
A very solid and inexpensive first start.
2) Bilstein Shocks ($256.00)(looking at AIS replacements)
Very nice, firm, but being in Oklahoma City I think AIS shocks may provide a wide range of confort to performance that I seek.
3) ADDCO sway bars ($242.51)
A must have! I drove from Anchorage Alaska to Panama City Florida (5500 miles) with these and the shocks. The SUV handled like a champ and cornered with very little to no lean. This was the one addon that makes me feel giddy 18 months later knowing I got poly bushings and a thick sway bar paying what I put into it time and time again.
4)SplitFire Twn Core Spark Plug Wires ($54.99)
I can't honestly say if I got any improvement, but being an enthusiast I always feel more comfortable knowing I have a top notch product in my vehicle. 82,000 miles on these wires and their still in superb condition wear-wise.
5) JET Low-Temperature Thermostat ($9.90)
I did this because I planned at the time and actually did drive from Anchorage to Panama City. It probably wasn't necessary but there were a lot of challenging climbs and declines during the way. Engine ran at a pretty cool temp the entire time.
6) JET powertech: ($294.00)
Too expensive but the impact was noticeable, especially in the shift points. I am very much aware there are better chip makers out there and plan on changing after I do these mods:
7) Ventvisor Deflectors for windows ($42.00)
I really like the look and their nice on a rainy day as I'm a smoker (smiles).
8) Borla Exhaust ($405.60)
I just got these in the mail and a mechanic ready to bolt these on.
9) Big Bore Throttle Body ($345.00)
This should be on my doorstep in 3 days. I plan on using this as a good compliment to the Borla Exhaust. My mentality is, "What goes in must come out."
10) Door Edge Guards ($27.50)
These will come in the mail in a few days as well. This is just part of my continued preventive maintenance that I do when babying my Explorer.
Question for all of you:
Any of you installed a larger mass airflow sensor on a 1995 Explorer? I'm interested in the Granatelli Motor Sports Mass Airflow Sensor selling for $264.00. Does this instal inside the tubing prior to the throttle body? I can't see it visually when I pop the hood. I'm also curious how well it works. At face value, it looks like a superb compliment to the larger throttle body and borla exhaust I have.
Biggest dissapointment: Borla said they no longer make headers for the 1995 Ford Explorer. What gives?
Take care folks and I will keep you posted how things are going!
Chris
