Just joined been in AZ since 96-97 always owned Chevys but recently my wife traded our Impala (sedan) for a Ford Explorer. I'm super curious about what an Explorer can offer since I've never had the pleasure of owning one. So as they say in the computer world... Hello World!

Our Explorer currently has a symtom of starting on the 2nd try, is there a common problem/solution that Explorers have that I can research for this. To date I have replaced the Fuel Pump/O-ring on tank, Gas Cap (that helped the most), & Fuel Filter/O-rings in the quick snap lines... (all 4?? What's up with the 4 rings?) anyway... If left sitting over night it'll take 2 tries to start, throughout the day it'll start just fine. Mostly. either way I'd like to fix it to where it starts on the 1st turn.

Any input appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! Try turning the key to the on position and leaving it there for a few seconds and then turn it back off then repeat the off/on procedure 3 times then try starting it and see if that does anything.

welcome and nice explorer u got there sandman

Possibly leaky injectors causing the pressure in the lines to bleed down?

Try the procedure outlined above, where you turn the key to on a couple times before cranking. If it starts on the first crank after that, you're losing pressure in the line somehow overnight...

By the way, I am on the other side of the Valley of the Sprawl... In Wittmann;)

Hey Rick I was just watching your ride this morning on YouTube!
Nice to meet cha! Nice ride too.

I like the West side better then where I'm at now....:thumbdwn: Anyway thanks for the input guys, I'm going to try the turn key 3 times thing at lunch.
Lately I've been turning the key and waiting about 3 seconds after the pump goes off to start. Most times it starts on the first try but with alittle more effort than it should.

Update 05-29-08
Same symptom I'll have to run with the leaky injector(s). I'm going to replace wires & plugs since I don't know how old the current ones are.
