2001 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello everyone,

I own a 2001 Ford explorer sport - 2wd. Over the past few months, I've noticed a grinding noise when making left turns. If I'm driving straight or if I'm making right turns I don't hear any noticeable noise; it's only when I turn left.

I've been trying to figure out what the issue is. I've recently changed the front brake pads and checked the shims to see if they were touching the rotors. I didn't notice any issues there.

To see if there was a possible problem with the wheel bearings, I also did check to see if there was any side to side movement with the tires. There was, in fact, some side to side movement with the left wheel when I jacked it up.

If you grasp the tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and try to push and pull inside/out, there is no movement. But if you grab the tire at the 9 to 3 o'clock position and wiggle it from side to side, there is a little bit of play in the wheel.

So, is it a bad wheel bearing, a bad inner tie-rod, or a bad cv joint?

thanks.
