I have a 01 explorer sport. Last yr when it was in 4 wheel drive it made a humming noise but nothing too bad, at the end of the year i noticed it would not pop out of 4 wheel drive for almost a few miles after i turned it off and when it did it felt like i hit a speed bump, only way i could get it to disengage quicker was to turn the wheel sharp to either the left or right. This year its a whole diff story, in 4 wheel high it makes a loud grinding noise almost like its binding and it feels like it doesnt even wanna go. Now during the summer i did put 245/75/16 on the front while leaving 255/75/16 on the rear. I know not to run it in 4wheel drive on dry roads or even just wet roads cause of the tire difference. But would the tire size cause it to sound like this even on slushy roads. It feels like somethings binding bad and it grinds bad to where i can feel it and hear it loudly. Any Ideas. If it is the tire size issues...would i be able to check that by deflating the 255 tires down to like 30lbs and putting the 245 tires up to like 35-37 to try and make the diameters more the same???
