grinding

I'm using the 911 feature again today! My 93 has developed a grinding noise that only seems to be there in high rpm 1st gear and low rpm second then it disappears. I have taken apart the rear end checked all bearings put new fluid. Checked all the ujoints. Took the front end apart checked all the new parts all bearings and seals are good. Took the transfer case apart and checked all bearings everything looks good. Any ideas?

Well I think its a pilot bearing. Not positive but the tranny is the only part I haven't been into.

Well here is what's left of the pilot bearing! I think this may be the problem!

Well just finished up and drove it but its still grinding! WTF!?! I've been through everything!

Drove it to work today and its REALLY wobbling when you hit a bump big or small. Scary wobbly.

Did you have a look at the trans when you had it out? Fluid condition, or pull the bearing retainer off for a look?

Grinding while shifting or grinding while clutch engaged and in gear? Grinding like gears or grinding like a backing plate shoved against a wheel?

What do you mean wobbly, like a bent rim/bad tire or it gyrates when you hit a bump like a sway bar disconnected?

Edit, meant rotor, not wheel...

Trans looked good. Grinding like a rotor rubbing a wheel and its between 15-20 mph whether in gear clutch in neutral it don't matter!

You could frig around with that for a while trying to figure it out, save yourself some time and put it on 4 jack stands or a lift, run it in gear. Just be damn careful!!!

Already did that it doesn't make the noise without the weight on the wheels!

I replaced everything from the knuckles out with freshly painted and cleaned parts from a 96 Mazda b4000. The thing im gonna check next is my ujoints in the front axle shafts.

Not really however I filled the front pumpkin with oil after replacing the axle seals and it seems to have almost quit so I'm wondering if just the friction was making the gears in the front diff turn just enough that with low oil it was making the noise. But I still need to drive it around a bit more to see if its not there!

Nope still there just more intermittent now! Ugh driving me crazy between this and the Damn alignment I'm really gonna start looking hard for an eb d44 to swap in!

Did you do a c clip eliminator on the right axle? Maybe something is going on there? Grasping there...

Ya I did but the axle shafts shouldnt be spinning. Right now I'm putting in a water pump, thermostat and new fan clutch then ill try running it in 4 wheel drive and see if it gets better or worse!
