Growling noise coming from the front end?

My dad thinks its a wheeling bearing but I just want to make sure what you guys think. When your driving theres a growling type noise comin from the drivers side up front. Does anyone know how much thats gonna cost (for the part not labor i'll do that).

wheel bearings are like 100-150 if its 4wd.

Ouch but I guess it could be worse. Gotta change it before it gets worse (dont want it to let go in the snow or on the highway ).

Wheel bearings arent that much!!! They're maybe $15 a piece.

Is yours a 97? This is 91-94 explorers.

It comes as a "hub assembly" for 3rd gen (same for 2 & 4wd ~ $145). Maybe some one can verify for your year model.

big deference from 1st gen old school wheel bearings to the 3rd gen none rebuild able hub unites both in how to do them and in cost so first thing to know is what year are we talking about because they are not interchangeable at all not even close.

1st gen = race and rollers that you pack with grease and also a grease seal for the back of the hub.

3rd Gen = sealed pre greased unit in a sealed enclosure that is mounted with three bolts. Also unable to service them as in repacking with grease or replacing the grease seal. Replacement or service is replacing unit only.

I had the same sound coming from what I thought was the passenger side, so I replaced both front bearings. still growling, so my buddy who is a wiz told me it was in the rear end. so I simply repacked and re-lubed the rear-end eliminating the problem.

they are talking about 2nd gen bearings. They come as a hub assembly... pricey crap.

Sounds like it kinda hard to tell but it prob is . A guy I know who works for the postal service, he repairs the mail trucks, and he said thats a common problem with these. Im just gonna get the one that 1Atony put up and hope for the best. I guess my dad wants to sell this in the spring and get a suburban so I dont wanna dump a ton of money into it. But dont worry everyone once I fix my 90 mustang im sellin it to get a 96-01 V8 explorer . I really like drivin my moms and they have a good platform for the vortech I want to put on it lol.

Those hubs have a two year warranty on them, if there's even an issue call us and we'll make good on it.
