(Guide)98-01 Mounty Headlights/Front End to 95-01 Explorer

Ok, since there wasn't really a guide for this I thought I would go through a quick rundown since I just did an HID Retrofit into them.

Parts Needed:
95-01 Explorer
Headlight Top Cover(or what ever it's called) from 98-01 Mountaineer
Header Panel from 98-01 Mountaineer
Headlights from 98-01 Mountaineer
Corner Lenses from 98-01 Mountaineer
Grill from 98-01 Mountaineer
10mm Socket
8mm Socket
13mm Socket
2-4 hrs+ of your time depending on the rusted bolts :-D

Step One:
Remove all Screws/bolts that attach the grill and headlight top cover
Roughly about 6-8 screws and bolts
(sorry no pics)

Step Two:
Unscrew bolts holding Turn Signals/corner lenses and remove them. Once removed, take grill off header panel (pull gently don't break the clips)
(once again no pics)

Step Three(the fun part):
Unbolt all bolts holding in Header panel and remove plastic radiator panel cover.
(places where bolts are at are marked in red)





The ones behind the fender are a P.I.T.A.! make sure to either remove the fenders (this is the hard way), or Remove part of the wheel well cover to gain access to them

Step Four:
Remove Header panel

Step Five:
Place "new" header panel on to car (reverse steps of step 3)

Step Six:
Install "new" Grill


Step Seven:
Install Mountaineer Headlights into Header panel (make sure to align them at this point that was a bad mistake for me)


Step Eight:
Install Mountaineer Corner Lenses

Step Nine:
Install Headlight Cover panel thingy

Step Ten:
Crack open a beer (if of age) You are done!

Projectors are morimoto h1 from the retrofit source, and the halos are from unmitza.com

00 mountaineer headlight set up

I have a 00 Mountaineer looking to trade front end from Mountaineer to explorer If you have one in good cond and looking to upgrade to 00 mountaineer from your 95-01 explorer Please let me know I got a after market chrome grille and new head lights, I hit a deer in November had to replace it all. hey when you switched from the explorer to mountaineer grille, what did you do for the wiring harness? did you splice in a mountaineer harness?

What do you mean about the wiring harness. All the bulbs I had fit in the mounty housings
