I recently bought H3 hid foglight bulbs for my 99 explorer, i searched on ebay for 99 explorer fog hids, the search came up with both h1 and h3's so i bought a pair of h3's, after doing some research after purchasing some sites are saying that there h1's, i guess what im trying to ask if the h3's will fit into an h1 socket? on ebay the seller said they were compatible but id like to get you guys' opinion! thanks !

My '99 takes H1 in the fogs. Never heard of H3 working in them.

There is not any bulb that you can put in place of another. Thats why they are all numbered.
However, in your case I seem to remember that someone found out that the H1 bulb was put into a holder that was the same as a 900? bulb that was used in the X fog lights. Do a search for HID fog lights and you may find something.

H3 bulbs were only used on the first Gen Explorers. Although many bulb sellers still show the H3 as the fog bulb. Dont know why?????

It depends on your foglight as well, if you have the round foglights (like my truck also a '99) they're H1s but its weird as my mountaineer ('00) has 9006 bulbs.

So, do you have a picture of the front of your trucks to help us out?

Unfortunaly no pictures, however they are round like you said, i contacted the guy who sells them and its going to be a huge project just to mail these back and switch them for h1s

bulbs are cheap, buy a set of H1's from ddm tuning for 15 bucks...

I made the same mistake, sylvania said H3 for a 95-98 fog light, turns out its a 899 which cross references to an 880 bulb....
