Just like the title says. Had to give it up. The wife said the new Grandson needed a 5.0 to cruise around in so I traded my son for his '96 Contour. You have to stand on your head to get a baby seat in there. Pretty poor trade for me but commands must be obeyed :).

Saturday I picked up a 2000 5.0 with 128 thousand on it, about 110,000 less than the '98. sunroof, in console CD changer and an add on Python remote starter. The central locking is all screwy, all solenoids respond to the remote or door switch but none actually engage. I have the "door ajar" light and the only door that responds to key in ignition test is the drivers. I am going to search for broken wires in the door cluster before getting too excited as I am also having the power windows only work from the drivers door issue, that sounds like a broken wire to me.

I'm looking forward to some more years of towing with the Ex and now the kids are really enjoying theirs.

Guess it's time to update my profile.

Jack

PS: I will probably be back asking for some input on what it takes to remove the Python.

I can help you with the removal of the Python. It's pretty easy.
But why would you remove it?

Well, at least no one can say you aren't there for your son. Good luck with the new sploder.

Thanks for the replies guys.

DJ I have never felt much need for a remote start and getting one second or third hand doesn't thrill me. It looks like it might have been a pro install then other parts are pretty sloppy. There is no documentation with it so I don't know what I can and can't do. For instance I don't like auto lock and this one is super aggressive, just turning the key locks the doors. I won't ripe it out too quickly but if it acts up it's gone know what I mean?

I pulled the Python out of the Ex this weekend. After trying unsuccessfully to stow that basketball sized bundle of wires under the dash I cut the 15 zipties and dropped it to the floor. There were wires that had been worn through rubbing on metal brackets, some wires were spliced by stripping the feed wire and just twisting on the new wire. Duct tape was used in one place and the brand of electrical tape used bled adhesive on all the wrapped wires.
My central locking, including the door pad, is working again and I ordered new remotes, the original ones didn't come with it.
I'm going to clean the sticky wiring up and put the thing up for sale. My other cars are manual trans so not planning to reinstall it.
It is a Python 1400XP with an Audiovox key bypass box. Should be ok for someone else as the start worked fine I just don't care for it.
Thanks for the offer to help DJ.

What part of kansas are you in?

This is a perfect example of after market electronics gumming up the works when not installed properly. Glad to hear it's back to OEM function.

Riddick I live near Melvern Lake, about 75 miles south of KC on I-35. Lots of KC folks come to the lake.

I agree TG, especially on late model vehicles. I am sure a pro install would have looked tidy and had solid connects everywhere.

The forum has been a great resource.

Thanks
Jack

The forum message keeps telling me what a loser I am because I never post so I thought I would update my Ex history.

The '98 5.0 is still going strong. The kids got a lot of use out of it during the snows this winter.

The 2000 is doing good, no more issues with the central locking now that the Python is gone. I tried to get it into program mode for new remotes but wan't able to so programed the remotes to the '98. That made the kids happy.
Had the problem with the windows only working from the drivers door but couldn't find a cause. It finally fixed itself. Had a CEL for a bad DPFE but it finally fixed itself also. I must be a mechanical genius.

Towed the camper a few times last year and the 5.0 really struggled to drag that nearly 1 ton camper:D

Did drop some fuel mileage while towing but that is normal.

I need to replace the oil pressure switch and change the transmission filter and fluid but it is doing great.

Thanks again to everyone for the great forum.

It's good to see another Kansan hanging around. My son is also in a 98 v8:D

How is Melvern for Crappie fishing? Tell the truth now--;):D

Unfortunately the truth is I don't fish. I don't have a right arm and fishing was one of the things I tried but just gave up on. I took the kids out a few times when they were young but never kept up with it. Melvern Lake is usually pretty good for Crappie. My brother-in-law is a mechanic at the marina there so I usually keep up with the fishing just so I will sound intelligent when people ask, this year I haven't heard much. Is it still a little cold for them to run?

Crawford south of Fort Scott is one of our favorites for camping.

Crawford is pretty sweet. Let me know the next time you head there!
