hard 5th gear shift

Hi eveyone, new here.

Just bought my wife a "new to her" 02 Explorer 4.6 2wd. Awesome power. But sometimes when it shifts into final gear it will kinda shift hard. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this ? I did search, but it came up with 1000 posts, none of which seemed to relate.

sounds like the o/d will be going soon like so many others. eventually the o/d off light will start flashing. it might have codes stored, take it to autozone and have them scan it, it doesn't need to have the CEL on.

also, depending on service records, changing the tranny fluid and filter is always a good thing. that helped my 05 that was having funky shifts and not going into gear.

Is there a fix to this other than a rebuild ? A valve body or solenoid ? And could u tell me what model my tranny is ?

You should have a 5r55w, but check the transmission and axles code thread and you can double check your vehicle. There is a servo piston o-ring fix that may help. I would post the link but I'm on my phone.
