I had my 94 Explorer hood up sat marning and after a recent power steering change (by the dealer $$$) I had a lot of build up on the side of the engine from the year of slowley leaking fluid. So I used foaming engine cleaner (cold engine) and let it set for 30 minutes and sprayed it off with a small 110 pressure washer and it came very clean. I let it set another hour before starting it up to warm it up and dry it out....it started instantly and ran fine. I let it warm completly up and closed the hood and test drove it .....now it doesnt want to come out of first gear when its cold, after it warms up its fine. I checked the Auto fluid and its fine and all pink and new looking from the $2K job less than a year ago at a Tranmission place. Anything I am missing here, any clues ?? ...........it did not do this before I washed the engine ??? I parked it over clean dry concrete over night to look for any leaks and there are none....just biouncing this off you guys (and gals if here)

Thanks
Dwight

I am not sure about the transmission problem, but I would not leave the motor sitting an hour next time. Whenever you wash the motor, you want to dry it off asap, letting it sit lets corrosion and rust do its thing, plus you will have wires sitting in water. I dont know if this is the reason for the shifting problem, but how high are the rpms climbing before it shifts?

Close to 3K

and this is easy driving on my part, after it does it a trime or two it goes away and starts acting normally.

Thanks for the quick post. Will be replacing the 4.0 soon....know of any decent ones for sale at a fair price.?? I also need a temperature sensor for the little overhead compass/Temperature gauge. I removed the old one this morning and checked it's resistance and it apears to be well out of range...so its probbly off to the dealer to get fleaced again :D
